Where Would They Be Now? (If They Were Alive) 1st in a series: A Rebuttal

Our good friend Scott Sookman has passed along the following letter, which addresses the piece posted some days back about Mr. Mojo Rising. To wit:

"Dear Mr. Morgan:

I am writing to you in the interest of accuracy and
fairness. Our department conducts an ongoing
community outreach program with members of the
creative community. While it is certainly stretching
matters to refer to you and your so-called "blog" as a
creative endeavor, I nonetheless am obligated to
notify you of certain matters.

In your article "Where Would They Be Now (If They Were
Alive)", you refer to a Mr. James Morrison as an MTA
bus driver. A check of computer data shows no person
currently employed in that position by that name.
However, this is perfectly acceptable as a fictional
device.

However, more problematic is your use of a supposed
bus route, which stops at Hillhurst Avenue,
purportedly "makes a right on Santa Monica,"
indicating a route which travels along a north-south
alignment, for at least part of its alignment, and
then ends at Western Avenue. After an exhaustive
check of our route maps, we could find no bus route in
our system or any other (DASH, AV Transit) that uses
such a map. We urge all writers to hew to the
integrity of the MTA's system, bus routes, and
equipment when portraying the agency by name, as this
could potentially cause some confusion to potential
transit clients in our service area. An acceptable
alternative would be to change the name of the bus
company to something else, or change the indicators of
the bus route in your "story" so they conform with an
acutal bus route, be it number 26, 234 or even 163.
Thank you for your courtesy and cooperation, and your
help in keeping the intergrity of the MTA alive in our
great city.

Sincerely,
Don Bowie
Community Outreach Director
Department of Entertainment Industry Relations
Metropolitan Transit Authority
One Gateway Plaza
Union Station
Los Angeles, California"

I truly and humbly apologize to Mr. Bowie and all other members of the transit community we may have offended here at OLPM. It should have made sense to me that if we can be disturbed an offended by what we see on the real-life news, a fictional person could be deeply offended by a piece of fiction. I will be very careful where I pretend to tread in the future, and will make-believe that no further events of this type occur.

More Misplaced Altruistic Referencing

Watch now as another joins the fray: longtime Syracuse bud Andrew Milner has jumped in with all limbs akimbo and added to the madness. His fine new blog can be found at:

Giraffes on Horseback Salad

Which is an appropriate a name as any that I can think of. Also, don't forget that you can access Scott Sookman and his amazing Virtual Comedy Club of Joy over at:

And please don’t forget that our old friend Bill Spring is over at:

Viking Funeral

Please keep all of this in mind, and have a lovely evening.

Wherein the Author Has a Refreshing Beverage

Hi, folks, I'm back! So, apparently, is the site. For those of you hosebags that want to contact me, please feel "free" to do so at tflood@lausd.k12.ca.us. I check that e-mail every 2 weeks or so, so don't get all in a snit if you don't hear back from me right away. Boy, do I know how to publicize myself or WHAT?? Anyway, I've got lots of swell action planned for the next few posts, including the "long-awaited" second installment to the John K. Vormath action series! So sit back, fill your pants with sand and enjoy!
